scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='I.T. and how it benefits us as women.'/>
Uses of Information Technology For Women.

Uses of Information technology for Nigerian women.

Information can be said to mean knowing about something,or being aware of the situation
of things or the state of affairs in a particular state, country or the world as a whole.

Technology on the other hand is about being digital.it has to do with things that are not done manually.
Examples of things that are technological in nature are computers, cars, mobile phones,internet,I-pod to name but a few.

As nigerian women if we can combine information and technology then some of this oppressions, segregation, victimization,
against women will cease to happen.

Information and technology can be usefull in a case where the woman is being ill-treated maybe in her marital home, office,
e.t.c,she will be aware of her rights and fight for it.
Also in the popular case of uzoma okere it was through information technology we saw how the lady was maltreated and various groups took an interest in the case and fought against the injustice.

Also in the case where some policemen killed a woman and tagged her as an armed robber not knowing that a farmer had taken her picture as she lay on the ground dead with her clothes on.Only for the policemen to stip her naked and say she was shot during an operation.Alas on finding out where she lived, it was in a slum. The question on everyones lips was now if she was a robber how come she lived in abject poverty?

Another way women can use information technology is to use as a source of income.e.g.placing ads on thier blogs so when people visit it they can make money,it can also be used to advertise thier businesses like the omooba bridal shop that advertises on facebook.

Information technology can also be usefull for women since if they have any health related issue, they can google it,or get to know more about it.Same goes for women who are pregnant.they could go online and get to the signs, what they mean?e.t.c.
As women one can also post ones views on issues(blogs) or join sites like youtube, linkedin.e.tc.

I have learnt that one doesn't only have to empower women through talking and lectures only. You could also empower them technologically since the world is becoming a digital place and one can gather enough info on the internet. In the process one is also getting across to a larger audience since 4 out of 5 people have access to the internet either in thier homes ,offices or even the public internet cafe.

W-tec is empowering women to be able to use technological weapons like blogs, slides, facebook, Youtube,Video taking via camera or phone cameras, editing of the videos also. One is also speaking against violence, gender issues, stuggles, stating one's political views.

I say thumbs -up to the facilitators because in the process of attending this training one has learnt subtle ways through which one can speak up or state one's opinion either anonnymously(blogs) or in the open (facebook) type='text'>

I learnt a lot about LEADERSHIP yesterday. Its not only about leading people it also has to do with following and characteristics of a leader.

A leader should be charismatic, a good listener, a people –carrier, open to new ideas, full of his or her own ideas because one can only give out what one has within. A leader should also be able to select like-minded people who will help him/her attain the desired goal.

Another topic is GENDER. Simply put, it can be defined as a socially constituted role assigned to a man or a woman by society. What comes to mind next is how can one determine that I am a man or i am a woman? I will answer that question by saying that

The physical attributes of a person determines that. E.g., for a man; his stature, hair , gait. For a woman her breasts, hair, body build .

This brings me to the connection between Gender and Leadership, society thinks as women we are not entitled to lead. We should just stay back and follow, even when they want to be liberal and want a woman to contest, they tell her go for the post of the vice-president.

Come to think of it, if a woman could combine raising kids that become professionals in their field, taking care of the home, cooking, making sure every member of the family is ok, why would anyone think they can’t be in leadership?

According to the popular saying he who can’t govern his home how will he govern a country? Based on this premise, the conclusion is that if a woman can govern a home then she can govern a country.

There are instances of women presidents who are performing well e.g. Liberia and a country in europe . Or are the men just so scared that a woman will contest in Nigeria and perform excellently well where they have all failed?????

I learnt a lot about LEADERSHIP yesterday.
